No-nonsense restaurant and amazing pho. No sign on the outside but the place is always packed on weekend nights. I must confess that as a vegetarian I have only eaten one kind of pho there (but my meat-eating friends swear theirs is always good too). The vegetarian pho has really good broth and comes with a generous serving of lots of different kinds of mushrooms. Stop by an ATM before you come, it's cash only!
Vito's is the best pizza I have ever had. Slices are a bit pricier than your average pizza place, but it's definitely worth it. The slices are big and so, so delicious. I get the vegetarian pizza, which comes with spinach, broccoli, tomatoes and dollops of fresh ricotta cheese, and add kalamata olives. My boyfriend likes to get the vegetarian pizza with meatballs on top. The place is tiny, so you may have to wait to get a seat on a weekend night.
Contrary to this photo, Pure Luck looks dilapidated from the outside. I think the sign now just says "uck." But don't let that discourage you! Pure Luck is all vegan, but its food is hearty and filling -- huge burritos, overflowing sandwiches and super tasty sweet potato fries. Faux meat is made with jack fruit, and the texture is spot on. A bonus: Pure Luck is across the street from LA's best gelato shop, Scoops. Downside: closed Sundays.
