Zest restaurant has NO ZEST!!! This is the worst restaurant I've had the displeasure of visiting in the 40 years I've been in Denver. The prices compared with the quality of service and ambiance is outrageous! The price range for dinner is between $14-$16 per person and they are competing with truly nice restaurants in the Denver Metro area for the same price. What makes this outrageous is the fact that the ambiance is that of a low class, run of the mill, hole in the wall cafe, with wait staff who wear t-shirts with smug personalities.
When asked about whether or not standard dinner rolls would be served with such a costly dinner, the nasty response I received was that I would be given only three pieces of bread and would have to pay an additional charge for more bread, although my party consisted of three people (i.e. 1 piece of bread per person on the house). What makes this truly an insult is that my party was part of a larger party which had 20 + people. Bread, of all things, should be "on the house" considering the amount of money the larger party was generating. When our food came out, I was sadly disappointed by the bland, unthoughtful food preparation. My meal was beef tips with fig and pomegranate sauce and looked great on the menu but was a true dud for food taste and quality. The best part of the meal were the potatoes which were just standard, salt & peppered potatoes... but who can go wrong with that?
One person with my party complained that their food came out burnt. Another woman, who was sitting at our table with another party, complained that her food was also burnt and she wouldn't finish her chicken skewers. To top of the night, I requested two boxes to go. When the waiter returned, he provided 1 dirty box to pack up my food and when I requested for him to bring me TWO clean boxes, with a nasty attitude, he came back with the boxes. This crappy place to eat, which is no better but a LOT WORSE than a mom and pop diner, really ought to be investigated by the news media. This was $50 that I wish I could get back!
I brought my son into Zest for dinner one night and we had a great experience! We were first welcomed in with by energetic employees who sat us and gave my son a coloring page. It was very considerate of them and this consideration and positive energy continued throughout the course of our meal. I had the Parmesan chicken and my son ordered a ham and cheese sandwich off of the kids' menu. Our plates were both spotless as our waitress returned to clean of our table. The prices were very reasonable considering the organic, fresh ingredients which make up the meal and the atmosphere was perfect - there are many posters and products to entertain your eyes. I will definitely be returning to Zest Cafe and would recommend it to any!
