I have had three experiences at the restaurant, if you want to call it a restaurant.
1. The first time was when it first opened. My wife convinced me to go and get takeout from Torchys. Great idea except for the altercation that broke out in line waiting to be served. I was not involved, but two other gentlemen were. Did the management do anything? Nope, not a thing. Now, I understand that the management cannot be responsible for others actions, but to sit back and watch what was going on was ridiculous.
2. The second time, I placed a takeout order form them, a purchase of 36 breakfast tacos, a little over $80 worth. I called the day before, let them know when I would be there and what I wanted. The next morning, I arrived at the designated time and they had not even started cooking them. No apology, nothing.
3. This last time, once again, was to get a couple dozen breakfast tacos to go to a client. I ordered 2 dozen plus a couple of extra tacos that were to contain no cheese at all as someone cannot have dairy in the group. I figured, stupidly I guess, that they would designate those tacos apart from the others. Well, they did not and shame on me for not asking and for expecting a level of service that you would find anywhere else. So, I get to the client, open the pan to realize this and then try to figure out which two out of the 26 have no cheese on them. We opened every single one and all of them had cheese on them, big surprise there. I phoned the restaurant, was offered the opportunity to speak to the manager, which I gladly accepted, and sat there and waited, and waited, and waited. As a sid enote, when I picked up my order and brought it out to my car, I set it down on the backseat only to discover that someone had prevbiosyly set it in a puddle of hot sauce. Great, now I have hot sauce all over the back seat of my S550.
At then end of the day, I gave this "place" three chances and it was a great disappointment all three times, not in the food, but in the level of service offered. I grew up in this area, moved back to this area and have decided to raise my family in this area. That said, I am very active in the community and have now taken it upon myself to inform people of the kind of service they can expect from this establishiment. In addition, I have also let both of my childrens schools and their respective fundraiing comittees that they should not reach out to Torchys until they can seem to get their act together. I brought this problem up last Friday with a fellow businessman and he said he has had very similar experiences with Torchys. Between Preston/Royal and Preston/Forest, there are over two dozen places to get a bite to eat. The loss of one mediocre (I think that is being generous) estblishment would not be a bad thing.
