I had just returned to Phoenix after being away in Portland and the Bay Area for sixteen years, happened to be driving around town with my niece, who was visiting from Nebraska, and noticed a 'hole in the wall' cafe on East Indian School.
We agreed to stop and check it out, so we parked in back of the building and walked around the corner to the entrance. We were delighted!
Two Hippies is truly a blast from the past! The walls are covered with memorabilia, 60's and 70's era. There were, from what I remember, two tables with chairs, and snugs with bar stools along two walls.
My niece ordered the Magic Mushroom Burger, and I the Pulled Pork Sandwich. Both came with french fries and drinks. The total for our order was $10.00!
While we were waiting, my niece had a fainting spell, and had to go out to the car to lie down. The young man at the counter was very concerned, and brought me a bottle of cold water to take to her. It was VERY hot that day, which is most likely why she became ill. She recovered after about fifteen minutes, and came back into the cafe.
Our meals were served to us in brown paper bags, the sandwiches and fries were hot and delicious, and the customer service was great. The young man brought another water for my niece, 'on the house'.
We enjoyed our meals at one of the snugs, seated on the bar stools. All in all, it was a delightful time for both of us, except for the fainting spell.
I would recommend Two Hippies to anyone looking for a very laid back, inexpensive eatery where they can expect excellent sandwiches and wonderful customer service!
